Getting the Environment Right for your Children and Families Using The Communication Friendly Spaces™ Approach by Elizabeth Jarman

Input will support understanding of the CFS™ Approach to inspire and focus colleagues on the role of the environment, demonstrating how the underpinning principles have been used in practice, exploring the way that colleagues have observed closely to understand children’s preferred contexts for learning in order to make informed, flexible, low cost changes which impact positively on communication skills.

Using a case study approach and much relevant imagery, key strands of Elizabeth Jarman’s research would be blended and illustrated, for example:

  • Transition, familiarity and belonging
  • Developmentally appropriate environments
  • Storage and resource management
  • Resources ‘worth investigating’- schematic, open-ended play
  • The effects of noise
  • Targeted use of colour
  • Use of light
