PROFILE: Carol-Ann Grant

MY BACKGROUND

Since gaining my BEd at Marjons in 1996 I have spent the majority of my career in Early Years (except for a period of 3 years where I worked as a Y1 teacher at a special school). During my career, I opened and spent 3 years as the Specialist Language Teacher for Nursery children with significant language impairments at the ICAN centre in Plymouth. I have been an Early Years Teacher in Plymouth schools for 20 years and spent 13 of those as an Early Years leader. This included running a large Nursery whilst being responsible for 4 Reception classes. I have worked as an Early Years moderator and, alongside this, am currently the Lead Teacher for Teaching and Learning at Plympton St Mary CE Infant school with particular responsibility for EYFS and Pupil Premium. I use Makaton extensively within our school and have significant experience of working with children who have SEN and attachment related issues.

I am passionate about ensuring Early Years provision is of a high quality and reflects Early Years pedagogy. I enjoy working as part of an extended team and have valued being an integral part of many teams both in the past and currently.

MY SUCCESS STORIES

I was the original teacher who launched the ICAN Early years centre in Plymouth and saw significant achievements in the children I worked with. My ability to work alongside other agencies was honed and developed during this time.

I began a large private Nursery within a maintained primary school which catered for children aged 6 months- 4 years for 50 weeks of the year. Within this I managed a team of 30 staff. I have significant experience of working with children and families who have SEN.
