Teachers – Maths Subject Knowledge Enhancement
-
Whole Course
30/01/2019 - 22/05/2019
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Course Dates: Wednesday – 30th January, 27th February, 13th March, 3rd April and 22nd May 2019 – 1.00-4.00pm
Purpose:
The purpose of these sessions is to develop teacher subject knowledge through practitioner research, based around a set of 20 whole-class fluency sessions. The sessions are aimed at Year 3/4 pupils (possibly year 5), and build the core concepts for multiplicative reasoning into five face-to-face CPD sessions. Through being involved, teachers will develop a deeper understanding of the core concepts of proportionality, grouping and sharing, representations, unitising and the links between multiplication, division and fractions, ratio and percentage.
Requirements:
The teachers will be required to attend 5 x ½ day face-to-face CPD sessions, participate in focussed gap-tasks and also deliver 20 structured sessions with their class, linking fluency teaching with reasoning and problem solving, and to reflect on the implications for their own subject knowledge and on the progress of their pupils.
As well as receiving the fantastic CPD, each participating school will receive a block of 20 whole-class fluency sessions and all of the relevant resources!
The 5 sessions will be led by a highly experienced NCETM Professional Development Lead practitioner Josh Lury.
Josh Lury is an experienced teacher (having worked in Special Needs, Primary and Secondary schools for many years), now working as a Maths Consultant and author of a range of published teaching resources, including textbooks used around the world. He is the Deputy Maths Hub lead for NCETM’s Cornwall and West Devon Maths Hub (CODE).
