Educating Against Racism
Outline: Following the unrest in the city this summer, schools have an important role to play in supporting those children and young people impacted by racism, and in educating those children influenced by negative attitudes towards equality and diversity. To support schools in making an effective contribution to recovery and transformation in the city, we offer these additional CPD sessions, and strongly encourage every school to book one member of staff on training – that member of staff will be provided with information and resources to share back in school, making certain that each school is well equipped to meet this ongoing challenge and effect positive change.
This up to date training, developed in collaboration with young people, a range of partners, and reference to national guidance this summer, will focus on:
- Increasing knowledge and understanding of what constitutes a racist incident, and how to challenge racism in school through a positive, transformative approach
- Dispelling myths and misinformation around those seeking asylum
- Highlighting resources and support available to schools
- Looking at opportunities for learning within the curriculum which recognises diversity in modern British society.
Thought provoking and inspiring with takeaway resources to support policy and practice in school.
