Teaching belonging – the art of Lubaina Himid
Outline: The 2025 CAR states, ‘In Art & Design, research shows that works by minority ethnic artists are rarely used, despite the subject’s potential to reflect Britain’s cultural diversity and contributions to the discipline.’ In response, this session will explore Lubaina Himid’s British exhibit for the 2026 Venice Biennale entitled ‘What does it mean to belong?’ Ideas for planning learning in Art & Design and revealing what it means to make a home in places not always designed to welcome us.
